The Carnivore

Pizza...by the slice?

Pizza...by the slice?

Big Pie in the Sky: It is one thing to be a big eater and take down a big portion of food, but it is a whole another thing to get yourself a buddy who is willing to go after the glory with you. This place has a challenge that only two teams have been able to conquer, The Carnivore Challenge.

Big Pie in the Sky offers pizza by the slice, and these are from a 30 inch pizza mind you, or you can get a medium (16 inches), a large (20 inches) or the extra large (30 inches). You know you are in for a good time, and some Crazy Eats, when a medium is the size of places extra large. So you will know you can get a good deal on which ever pizza you decide to eat.

For the Carnivore Challenge you and a partner in crime must eat an extra large Carnivore pizza that weighs 11 LB. This thing is loaded down with 5 LB of meat: pepperoni, ground beef, Italian sausage, ham and bacon plus of course cheese and sauce. Do you think you could get them to put some garlic and extra cheese on the pizza? They give you and your partner an hour to eat the whole thing and they are strict as in they don’t let you leave the vicinity of your table during this time. If you succeed you will receive $250 of in house money, which means you will be coming back from more pizza on them. Over 400 people have tired it and to date only 2 teams have succeeded.

The Atomic Wings

August 14, 2009

Quaker Steak & Lube

Quaker Steak & Lube

Quaker Steak & Lube: This place is a cool old gas station that was converted to restaurant where they have even kept an old gas pump outside. If you are a gear head like me then you will love the décor of this place with race cars and other paraphernalia from the auto service industry of an age gone by. This places servers up over 70,000 wings a year and so you can see why that is what they are known for.

In the place where wings reign supreme you can get them in over 20 different flavors that range in heat levels from Ranch to Atomic. There are flavors such as Asian Sesame, Louisiana Lickers, and Pineapple Rum, I personally want to try the Dusted Chipotle BBQ. The menu is full of classic diner grub if you don’t want any wings, but why would you?

If you are one who love the heat and wants to test your taste buds, eat an order of 6 atomic wings and you get your name on the Atomic Wall of Flame and a bumper sticker. These wings are fresh jumbo sized wings that they coat with their homemade habenero hot sauce. These are so hot they even have you sign a Hold Harmless and Indemnification Agreement to even try and eat them, which is how you know they mean business. I am not a spice guy and never plan on trying these but those who are, you are in for some Crazy Eats.

The Kookamonga

August 14, 2009

The Kookamonga

The Kookamonga

Kooky Canuck: You know the burger is huge when out of about 2,000 people that have tried to eat it only 5 have succeed. What is even crazier is that one guy has done it 3 different times! This is what you get when you challenge the Kookamonga and try to eat the LB burger with 4 LB of beef, LB of veggies on a 2 LB bun, all in 60 minutes.

When you read the list of ingredients you just wonder what on earth someone is thinking to try and eat it. The buns look like the size of a cushion for a stool, and there are two of them, no slicing them in half. To get an idea of how big the patty itself is think about those 5 LB logs of ground beef you buy at the store and only cutting a pound off of it. To not skimp on the quality they use 80% ground chuck, which is the same quality they use on their high quality burgers. Then they put on 8 slices of cheese, a whole onion, a whole tomato, and some lettuce.

You look at this burger and you just wonder what would possess a man or woman to even try and eat this thing, let alone eat it 3 times. Now you have 60 minutes to eat it and yet the record holder ate it in only 7 minutes 36 seconds. The name of this man will be familiar from my last post, Joey Chestnut, the eating machine. This is truly Crazy Eats.

72 oz Steak Challenge

August 13, 2009

72 oz Steak

72 oz Steak

The Big Texan: This is one of the original challenges and it is a classic that defeats  5 out of 6 that have the stomach to try it. I love steak but I couldn’t imagine eating a 4 ½ LB steak in an hour plus a shrimp cocktail, dinner salad, baked potato, and a roll. That is just insane. Reminds me of the Ole 96er from the move “The Great Outdoors” http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0095253/

This all started when there was contest held for cowboys to see who could eat the most 1LB steaks, they each put $5 into a hat to go to the winner. The winner ate 4 ½  plus the shrimp cocktail, salad, potato, and roll. The owner decided that if anyone could match it they would eat for free. And so was born the challenge.

They have had a little old 69yr old grandma finish it off and the record is held by competitive eater Joey Chestnut, who ate it in 8 minutes 52 seconds. He is inhuman! There have even been people who have eaten 2 in the hour. That is SO much food that it makes my head hurt, but hey, that is some Crazy Eats.
