primanti's Stuffed Sandwich

primanti's Stuffed Sandwich

Primanti Brothers: This place had the great idea of putting the sides that they would normally serve with the sandwich and instead putting them in the sandwich and hence the original stuffed sandwich. Now this is a great Crazy Eats idea for those on the go and makes me want to try it myself. I bet we have all made sandwiches where we put potato chips or something else our mom’s packed for lunch, inside of the sandwich instead of eating it on the side. They have over 20 mega sized sandwiches on the menu that range from the fish & cheese to Black Angus top sirloin steak & cheese.

If the sandwich is still not big enough for you you can get it with double the meat, an extra egg, and of course extra cheese. Think this is how I will get mine when I finally get to try out this Pittsburgh treasure. All of these sandwiches are served up hot, so the cheese is all melted and gooie, just the way we like it. The kicker for all this is that they don’t serve it up on regular sliced bread or even a roll, they put it all on hand slice Italian bread. The slices for these sandwiches are the type of slices you would make for yourself were you making yourself a sandwich, nice and thick.

The Atomic Wings

August 14, 2009

Quaker Steak & Lube

Quaker Steak & Lube

Quaker Steak & Lube: This place is a cool old gas station that was converted to restaurant where they have even kept an old gas pump outside. If you are a gear head like me then you will love the décor of this place with race cars and other paraphernalia from the auto service industry of an age gone by. This places servers up over 70,000 wings a year and so you can see why that is what they are known for.

In the place where wings reign supreme you can get them in over 20 different flavors that range in heat levels from Ranch to Atomic. There are flavors such as Asian Sesame, Louisiana Lickers, and Pineapple Rum, I personally want to try the Dusted Chipotle BBQ. The menu is full of classic diner grub if you don’t want any wings, but why would you?

If you are one who love the heat and wants to test your taste buds, eat an order of 6 atomic wings and you get your name on the Atomic Wall of Flame and a bumper sticker. These wings are fresh jumbo sized wings that they coat with their homemade habenero hot sauce. These are so hot they even have you sign a Hold Harmless and Indemnification Agreement to even try and eat them, which is how you know they mean business. I am not a spice guy and never plan on trying these but those who are, you are in for some Crazy Eats.

Decadent Breakfast

August 12, 2009

Breakfast or Dessert?

Breakfast or Dessert?

Deluca’s Restaurant: I know that I have sweet tooth so a place like Deluca’s Restaurant is just my kind of place. They are home to some of the most extravagant and decadent breakfast dishes around. They have 8 different whipped cream covered breakfast dishes so that you can remember the days when pancakes and waffles could only come with whipped cream. The one that makes me hungry is their chocolate chip pancakes, topped with ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, nuts, and strawberries called the Chocolate Chip Hot-ade.

Their huge portions of traditional diner food have become famous and legendary in Pittsburgh. The delicious crepes are filled with creme, fruit and chocolate and there are huge, over-sized omelets made to order. So eat to your hearts content. For the really hungry you can get either the 2LB breakfast burrito or the 2 1/4LB mixed grill with veggies, potatoes, meat and eggs.

This place has some Crazy Eats because of the incredible breakfast/dessert dishes and also some big portions of good food. Just make sure you get there in plenty of time because there is always a line at breakfast time. So plan ahead and expect to wait because it always puts a damper on the day when you want to check out a great spot to eat and don’t plan for the long line.
